About

Wild Tame was commissioned by Netflix to document a special meeting around Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the anime reimagining of the cult-classic Scott Pilgrim film and graphic novel series. Highly anticipated by fans, the project reintroduced a beloved story through the lens of Japanese animation.

The series was brought to life by Science SARU, one of Japan’s most respected animation studios, known for their distinctive visual style and acclaimed works such as Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and Ping Pong the Animation. Their approach, playful, experimental, and deeply craft-driven, made them a natural fit for the world of Scott Pilgrim.

As longtime fans of Scott Pilgrim ourselves, it was a genuine privilege to film the meeting between creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, co-showrunner Ben Grabinski, and the Science SARU team. Beyond filming, we supported the project through pre-production planning and by acting as a cultural bridge between the US creative team and the local studio in Japan.

Many anime artists are thoughtful, modest, and more comfortable letting the work speak for itself. Our role was to respect that personal comfort and working culture, while still capturing the moments and conversations needed to create an engaging and meaningful piece of content.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help document a collaboration built on mutual respect, shared enthusiasm, and a deep love for the craft.
